A large number of pigs &c, sold faily well. At Ohaupo on Tuesday, October sth, there was again a very large mu->ter of stock of all classes, about 70 davy cows penned for which there was good competition, and many more could have been sold, steers H to 3-yr-old were in demand, and with exception <if one or two peus all sold, grown steers in fre&hcondition were also in request, and all this class sold readily ; not many beef offered, those of prune quality were eagerly competed for and sold well; a large number of sheep of all classes, (being m their wool), sold readily at an advance of ruling prices. We quote dairy cows, £4 10s to £6" ; backward: springeis and heifers, £3 to £4 10d ; yearliug steers, £1 13s to £2 ; H and 2-ye ( ir-old steers, £2 5a £3. 12s and £3 ; 3-year-old steers in low condition, £3 10s to £3 15s ; do., in fre>sh condition, £4 10s to £5 7sGd; store heifers, £l'l3s ; fat heifers, £4 to £4 15s ; large bullocks, £7 10s each ; ewes and lambs, 7a 9d to 10s ; hoggets, 8s 6d ; fat wethers, 14s 3d. At Mornnsville on Thursday, October 7th, we held our first monthly sale in , this rising district, a large number of settlers contributing stock, principally grown cattle for which there was good competition and nearly all sold. We forwarded about 150, principally young steers which arrived too late for our Ohaupo Sale, making over 400 yarded. The young cattle were purchased by the surrounding settlers at similar prices ruling at central market, thereby saving them several days driving, &c. We quote yearling steers, £1 13s, £1 16 sand £1 18s 6d ; li and 2-yr-old steers, £2 5s to £3 2s j grown steers, £3 15s to £4 10s each. At Hamilton Horse and Prrduce Sale, on Wednesday, October 13th, there were not many horses, but those brought forward were of a good class ; few sold at auction, but were placed privately after the sale. A large number of dairy cows sold fairly well, also several boxes of fowls. A number of pigs were offered but withdrawn. We quote active medium draughts, £9, £13 10s and £14 15s ; riding horses £4, £6 10a and £7 10*. ; fowls, lid to Is each ; dairy cows and springing heifers, £3 5s to £4 10s each. Private sales have been 25 3-year-old steers, £4 los; upstanding waggon horse, £30 ; medium draughts, £12, £14 and £15 15s ; evpress and harness, £18 ; new single-seated buggy, £20.
auckland live stock markets. Mr Alfred Buckland's Weekly "Report. — At the Hay market on Friday, October Bth, a considerable quantity of grain was sold. Oats 2s 8d to 3s 3d, maize 3s per bushel. Manures of all kinds were also in brisk demand. Hobart sped potatoes £5 5s to £6 per ton. Loose fodder was lower in price, ranging from 2s to 3s per cwt. Horse stock sold freely, useful medium draughts bringing from £1G to £20 each, riding horses were also in better inquiry. Hides maintained late values, best parcels brought 3sd per Ib. Sheepskins were in better demand, full woolled skins brought from 4s 9d to 5s 6d each. At the sale of Jenkinson's bankrupt stock, there was a numerous attendance. The horses brought £16 10s to £17 10s respectively, buggy £13, drays £6 to 68, mortar mill £41 10», 8-horse power engine £110. At the Remuera Yards on Thursday dairy cows were in moderate number, and without alteration in value. §tore cattle in full number, many hundred head sold. Prices for grown steers were lower than of late, but young cattle (calves and yearlings) were in brisk enquiry, and higher values were obtained for cattle of this class at close of auction than beginning. Fat cattle at fir3t fully maintained last week's values, but fell in value slightly at conclusion of sale. Fat calves maintained their price. Lambs plentiful, choice pen s from 10a to 13s, but the greater number from 6s to 8s each. Fat sheep abundant, and barely maintained last week's values. Good wethers, shorn, selling under 2d the lb. Pigs of all classes plentiful, and sold well, paiticularly if well bred. Messrs Hunter and Nolans Weekly Report. — Horses : There has been continued activity in the market, although nothing special offered, and no material alteration in value resulted. The number submitted by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday was scarcely so large as on the previous week. Competition was scarcely so brisk, as most of the animals had visited the yards previously, and it was know that a shipment was on the way. We quote : Hacks, at from £5 to £11 ; light harness horses £9 to £14 5s ; light draught £14 10s to £20. Cattle : The supply has continued large, and the demand steady, with little alteration in value of dairy and store stock, but there was a downward tendency in value of fat beasts. The Newmarket yards were well filled on Tuesday, and there svas a large muster at the monthly sale at Pukekohe on Wednesday. Fat stock did not reach the anticipation of \endors on Tuesday, and there was a decline of from 10s to 20s per head on the previous weeks values ; other descriptions without noteworthy change. Sheep : There has been a marked decline in value consequent on a good many having been brought forward. Wethers sold at from 11s to 14s 9d, ewes, at frwm 8s to JOd (sd. Lambs v\ere in excess of requirements, and sold at from 6-. (id to 13s 6p. Pigi : Adequate supply, good dairyfed porkers sold .it 3d per lb live weight, coarso pigs from H<i to 2^d. Messrs G. W. Binney and Son's Report. — At our sales of produce on Tuesday, hides and skins sold at satisfactory rates. Prime ox hide-, 4d per lb, 22s to 2lis each ; heavy, 3| to 3sd, 17s to 20^ eich; gieen cow hides, lls to 12 eac'i ; cow hide^, salted, 2^d to 3£d ; cuf ski s, :^d to 4sd per lb. D, mag'd, very dull of sale. Sheep skins soiu under brisk competition, the lot being cleared at satisfactory prices. Butchers' green «kins 5s to 5s 3d each ; country skins, 4s Gd to 4s> 9<l ; for, full crossbreds, 3s b'd to 4s 6d' for medium ; Is 6d to 2s 6d for meiinos.
