WELLINGTON, Saturday. A monolith representing the gold obtained in the colony has been erected in the New Zealand Court at the Exhibition. It is said to look very well, and adds to the attraction of the court. December Ist will be fixed as the date for receiving applications tor loans from local bodies under the Acts of last Mission. A ciicular will be shortly issued containing a precis of the statutes under which the proceedings must be initiated. A Chinaman's store in Manners-street was burglariously entered some time today, during the absence ot the proprietor, and goods to the value of £20 carried away. Entrance was effected by cutting out a pme of glass at the rear of the promise. 13 . He thought that such cases as vcuug women, or young persons found guilty of silly acts for the first time were the pioper class of offenders to be dealt with under the Act, and not every offender of whose previous history nothing was known.
NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday. The schoolmaster's residence was burnt down at Lepperton this morning at three o'clock, the children having a narrow escape of being burnt. Nothing as to the oti^in is known It was not insured.
