THE CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH ELECTION.
Gukat interest is felt in the result of the poll, which will be taken on Monday, for the election of a councillor for the Borough of Cambridge, to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr H. Asher. MeB»n James Hally and James Johnson are candidates for the office, and each gentleman has a strong party supporting. Both sides profess to feel certain of victory, each asserting that their man is bound to have a majority of Home fifty votes. They have counted heads and are positive abouV the matter, and it is- therefore evident that there is an unpleasant surprise in store for one side or the other. With respect to the two candidate*, they are both well-known residents, Mr Hally having been identified with Cambridge from its earliest days, and having successfully carried on various largo enterprises in the town. Mr Johnson, although he has not resided in the district so long as his rival, has taken an active part in local politics. He was formerly a membe* of the town board, and the ratepayers have plenty of opportunities of judging his fitness for the position he aspfcra to by his actions in the past. U
