ONE-SIDED LEGISLATION.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Now that in these times the election is all that absorbs the attention of the people, perhaps a little advice and inforniation might not come amiss. In the first place, on analysing the personnel of the council, I find' that of the four no less than three reside in Duke-street, and have their interests in that street. The mainspring of the party of one of the candidates, also, has its interests in Duke-street. The other man is in the country, .so to speak. It is true th«it Duke-street is divided, but still the fact remains, and on any question affecting Duke-street, they would vote for its benefit, to the detriment or otherwise of the other streets. We know that on election day we will see two parties, Upper Duke-street v. Lower Street, and I hope we will see anothei one, viz., Independent**. I have not been long in this town and I much regret to see such unseemly fights in our council chamber by the fathers of the town. I think it is about time we had some understanding as to this noise. When your next issue appears we shall know the results, whether Duke-street or the Independents run the town. — I am, yours obediently, An Independent. Cambridge, October 7th, 1880,
