THE GREAT BARRIER MURDER. REPORTED CAPTURE OF CAFFREY. PENN SEEN IN NEW SOUTH WALES.

The Sovereign of the Seas Abandoned.

A POLICE OFFICER TO BE DESPATCHED TO IDENTIFY THE MURDERER.

[BT TELEGBAPH. — OWN COKRKSFONDENT.J Auckland, Last Night. The police authorities have received a cable from the Superintendent of Police of N.S.W., stating that a man answering portraits and description of Caffrey, the Great Barrier murderer, has been arrested. The man, however, has on his breast tatoo marks, which are not noted in the description of CafiYey sent by the New Zealand police. Possibly they did not know of these. Caftrey's mate, Perm, has, it is believed, been seen in New South Wales. The supposition is that the two men landed in New South Wales after having abandoned the Sovereign of the Seas in a position so that she would be wrecked, and create an impression that all had been drowned. It is probable that an officer will be sent from Auckland to Sydney to see if the man in custody really is Caffrey.
