General Items. While returning from the death-bed of a patient at Owhaoroa on Saturday last, Dr. Cooper, of Te Aroha, was thrown from his horse, and had two of his ribs broken. Owing to Mr J. H. Walsh having transfeired his publican's license from Owharoa to Karangahake, the former place is sans, whisky. Theie are, however, four applicants on the warpath. The Owharoa prospecting low level contractors, through Mr M. Abbot's <l Smile of Forfune," have finished their last contract. The drive ia now in considerably over a thousand feet. A number of prospecting parties under Clause I, Regulation for Aid to Prospecting, are being formed. These provide regulation that Government subsidies parties, not exceeding three men from each riding in any country, at the rate of 15s per week per man, if they propose to confine their efforts to districts three miles from any main road or known wot kings. It is confidently believed that in two or three of these places where these parties intend fossicking there is existing rich, quartz. The recent fire at the Komata destroyed! over £400 worth of hay, oats, &c. Although it is deemed to be the work of an incendiary, no individual is as yet suspected.
