OHINEMURI GOLDFIELD. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Waihi. Pa*roa, Tuesday. Martha Extended.— Stevenson and Co. have finished tne 100 ft. contract in the lower drive, and another 100 ft. in to be let. There is fair stone from the lower workings, and crushing is proceeding. Silvkhton. — Ten head of stampers are working three shifts on 50 tons of kindly stone. Most of thi9 dirt was taken from the reef near the winze in the lower level, and should speak woll for itself. Cleaning up and retorting will take place on Thursday. The returns should be over an oz. t.> the ton by the show at present. Winner. — The reef has not yet been met with, but the country is highly favourable m the drive, which is in 100 feet. Union. — The reef is improving, both as regards size and quality in the low level, the sulphides being especially remarkable. A crushing of 50 tons in now taking place, and the return should be first-class as none of the higher grade stuff has been picked out as is usually done. liosKMONi 1 . — Sorensonand Co. have taken a fresh contract to drive the low level out of the Union Co's ground (where they are now working) to the Rosomont boundary. This is only about 70 feet, and should be done within the month. The roads are still in a deplorable condition at Waihi.

KarangahakeNew Quartz REimcrioN Wokks.— Mr Railcy, tho enterprising manager of this plant, reports fair progress. The weather is still very unfavourable for out-door work, and the freshes in the river prevent the completion of the dam and water-race. A start will, however, be made this week with that portion of the work, as tho fresh is now subsiding. Adklink.— A contract was let by Mr Hall, manager, to Kelly and party for a 150 ft. section of the new low level drive at 10s 3d per foot. The contractors have made a start, and are into fair country. Nearly 40 tons of quartz will be sent to the Thames next week for treatment, including about 10 tons of the No. 1 dirt, which ia worth about per ton. This will be put through a specimen stamper. The balance is to bo treated in the ordinary manner. Dcbbo. — ThiB claim is to be started again shortly. It is in a good position, and has a first-class re°f running right through it. Chown. — Samples of ore brought from this mine recently speak well for its future; one piece of stuff, showing an abundance of gold and silver sulphide, and containing also a quantity of manganese was on view at the Bank of New Zealand, Ohinemuri, recently. This should be just tho class of dirt for tho Mackay pans (Railey's plant), which would save 80 to ( J0 per cent, of its metal, a consummation devoutly to be wished. The miners who left this part of the field for Kimberley at tho beginning of the rush, are now stiag^ling back to the fold. One old digger ga\ o your correspondent a deplorable account of the state of things at Cambridge Gulf. He ways that them is no doubt that anyhow so fa,r as regards tho present field, it is quite a "frost."

Tui Creek Mines. Ab'.ut r>o tmis of ore from Mr Corne's mine iire awaiting 1 transit to Auckland en route for Swansea. The result of the 78 tons sent to that place some 6 months ago will be known bvthe incoming 'Frisco mail. A return of about £12 per ton or more is confidently expected. This will leave plenty of margin,
