TE AWAMUTU CHEESE FACTORY. Future Operations.

Thk meeting between the directors of the cheese factory and the suppliers, which was proposed at the annual meeting lias not been held yet, nor have we heard that it is coming off. The directors have announced their intention to pay for the milk at the end of three months by promissory note, the company to pay the bank discount. Some think it hard that the suppliers should pay the discount, if they want to cash their bills, while others, among the suppliers, think they should, and that the company should, by having no account to pay, get a chance to recoup some of the losses sustained by not having to pay interest. They argue that as a rule farmers do not get money for stock and produce and this should apply equally to milk as to other kinds of farm produce. There is a good deal in favour of this argument ; for imstance, they would have to wait .six months at the start only, providing they did not want to cash their bills. After that their bills would mature every three months. S.\y the work begins Ist October ;on the Ist January P.N's would be given for the previous thiee months, these would mature on the 4th April, meantime notes for the second period of three months would have been given on the Ist of April, which would nature on 4th July, so that, as .stated above, suppliers would only be called on to wuit for six months at the stait. If a man puts in a crop of grain or potatoes he does not expect to realise under six months. Some encouragement should be given to the company, more especially as it has been carrying on operations under difficulties. That it has been of immense benefit to the district no one can deny, and as the shareholders have hitherto borne all the expense the suppliers, to en.ible them to carry on, should help them a little. To our mind the great draw-back to the success of the factory lies in the fact that four times as much land as was necessary was purchased. Had the offer of ten acres, which was made, and the purchase money of which was to have been taken out iii paid-up shares, been accepted, the profit and loss account would have presented a very different appearance. It is no use, however, crying over spilt milk. If the settlers supply milk in large quantities during the ensuing season, instead of a deficit at the end there should be a surplus. That the supply will be very much greater this year is, we hear, certain. The quality of the cheese is unsurpassed, and if milk up to the working capacity of the factory is brought in, a successful season must result. Of the .solvency of the concern there is no need to speak ; that was fully demonstrated at the annual meeting.

The well-known horse Rantin' Robin is adteitised to stand at Te Awamutu this season, at prices to suit the times. Mr John Knox will sell at the Hamilton Auction Mart on Saturday, produce, poultry, drapery, &c, &c. The fifth annual meeting of the sh ireholders of the Kihilcihi Public Hall Company will be held at the hall on Saturday, the 25th inst., at 8.30 p.m. Mr E. L. Smith, proprietor of the Royal Hotel, Hamilton East, inserts a business notice in another column. A coach meets all trains, and the Oddfellows' Hall, m the immediate vicinity, can be obtained at a low rental on application at the hotel.
