Messrs Alfred Bucklani>& Co. report. -<- At the Haymarket on Friday, September 10, horses were yarded, not many, prices were firm, and there was an unsatisfied demand for young horses suitable foi faitn work. Loose fodder was plentiful, but required, and late values fully sustained. Pressed hay moves ntf but slowly, and lower values will have to be taken than are at present sought to effect sales. Grain sold freely, oats from 2s lid to 2s Od, mai/e 3s 3d the bushel. Manures are inquired for and with improved weather will be requited in quantity. On Tuesday hides were in full numb.-rs, prices not so good as a short time since, the greater pait brought from 2^d to 2|d the lb, be*>t quality 3d to 3jd, o\ from 16s to 19s. Sheepskins are in improved demand, and brought from 2s 3d to 3s 7d each. Tallow 13s 6d the cwt, inferior wool 3|d to 4J the lb. The country cattle sales have been fairly supplied with stock, and prices for all descriptions firm. That at Pokeno on Monday consisted principally of cows and heifers, but on Wednesday at Druiy there was a large muster of well-bred steers of all classes, )for which there wa an improved demand, three-year-olds bringing £3 10s to £4 s>> each, and other ages m proportion. At the Romuera Yards, on Thursday, dairy cattle scarcely maintained Lite values. Store cattle in good inquiry. F.it cattle in average number did not maintain l.is>t week's valuta ; best quality were at 20s and 2Ls, and inferior from 18s the 1001b. Sheep were at higher values; best pens, mixed sexes, brought 19s each in their wool, good ordinary wethers 15s each. Fat lambs short of lequirementr,, and better worth. Pigs in moderate number weie at late values. T , ___
Messrs. Hunter andJNolans weekly Report —Horses : The market has continued moderately active with no perceptible alteration in value. An average number were submitted by auction at the Durham Yards on Friday, and found purchasers at about the previous week's values. No horses of a really good stamp were entered, consequently no high figures were reached. We quote : Hacks from £5 to £11, light harness horses from £10 to £12 10s, medium draught £IG. Wool, hides, skins, and tallow : Supply rather limited, and of indifferent descriptions both in hides and skins, no tallow offered. We quote; Ok hides from 2^d to 3M per Ib, cow hides 2£d to 3d, skins from 2s Gd to 3s Gd each. Cattle : There has been considerable animation in the" market, and a good number of fat beasts have been brought forward, and found purchasers at fully the maximum of last week's prices. The pens at Newmarket were well filled on Tuesday ; competition was spirited throughout the sale, and there was a further advance in value of fat beasts, although prices fluctuated from 19s to 23s per 1001b, steers ranging from £6 to £9 12s 6d, cows from £5 7s Gd to £7. Sheep were short of requirements, and sold consequently higher than would otherwise have been the case, and the tendency in values was upwards as the sale proceeded, and 2s per 81b for woolled sheep was realised ; wethers in wool sold at from los Gd to 17s 9d, shorn from 13s Gd to lGs Gd, ewes from 13s to l.")s 6d, spring lambs from 13s 3d to 15s 9d. Pigs were more plentiful than on the previous week, but prices were in favour of the purchaser. Prices ranged from l^d to 2^ per lb live weight.
