NO MORE BAD TIMES.

Sin,— Tho following paragraph was wired to the Star by its Wellington correspondent :—: — A Dbsirahlk Sbttlkr, Amonpst the passengers by the Ruapehu, which called in atWellington yesterday, en tvutr for Auckland, is a man possessed of about £1000, who intends taking up land in your district. Hurrah ! The depression in ended ! Fortunate Auckland, miserable Wellington. A passenger with a wholo thou to lavish in buying up a tract of country, and tho fortunate possessor of all this wealth really means it, for behold does not "our special " wire it at press rate all tho way from Wellington. Doubtless in order to warn Auckland to behave in a fitting manner on an occasion fraught with so much financial importance. In order to impress this Croesus with a favourable impression of our appreciation of so much lucre, I hope our representative men will turn out to a man and extend to him the right hand of fellowship. The Star might oven devote a portion of that literary wealth it has so large a store of in framing an appropriate address to be executed at job rates. And we are told he means to splodge all this in land. Incredible ! He surely does not mean to buy the whole North Island. Better keep some of it and buy a few free/ing shares, co-operative shares, take a small interest in the La Monte process, cheese and bacon shares, or any other of the many little companies, which, if not calculated to speedily enrich, are "safe" to keep his mind employed in his old ago.
