Mr Griffith, replying to Mr Gillies communication in reference to united action being taken by the colonies with regard to the New Hebrides, and for the purpose of adopting the necessary measures for the protection of the colonies from an influx of recidivistes, has proposed th.it Bills be introduced in each colony for the purpose of preventing the landing of escapees. Mr Gillies is now in communication with the Premiers of other colonies with the view of carrying the proposal into effect. News has been received from the Rev. Mr Macdonald, Presbyterian missionary at Havannah Harbour, 2STew HVbrkle^, that the French are forcibly taking possession of land in those islands. Arrived : The s.s. Rotomahana last evening.
