LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The Chamber of Commerce and Country. AUCKLAND, Wednesday Night.
At the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce to-day the council submitted the following recommendation on the subject of county members :— " That county councils throughout the provincial district be eligible through accredited representatives for membership for the Chamber upon payment of an annual fee of £1 Is ; that accompanying circulars be forwarded to the county councils, setting forth the advantages accruing from the amalgamation of interests as proposed; that further additional membership Bhall be established and designated country members, who shall subscribe annually, subject to existing rules as to ballot; that a portion of the additional funds arising from country subscriptions be expended in furnishing the news room with agricultural journals from other colonies and America, together with useful statistics, works of reference." The discussion of these propositions is adjourned for a week.
