The Cable Interrupted. Auckland, Monday Night. No cablegrams are to hand because the overland wire h interrupted in Eurrnah.
The Asylum. Mr IVacocko has received a telegram from the Minister for Public Works, stuting that plans for addition* to the Auckland Asylum are being pushed on.
The Village Settlement Scheme. Mr BilliMiue h<is telegraphed congratulating Mr John Lundon on the success of the village sottli'inont scheme. The result of the drawing was made known to-day.
Forfeited Land Sale. Messrs S. Cochrane and Son, auctioneer*, held an important sale of county land* forfeited under the provisions of the Rating Acts for non-payment of rates. Those otfered, which were nearly all 00-acro .selections, were .sold at Te Papa, Te Apota, Te Puna and (ireerton in Cook County, at Taupiri and VVhansjamariuo. There were no offers for the Whangam.it ino, (Jreertun, and Te Punt sections, but most of the Te Pdpa and several of the Taupiri and To Apata lots found purchasers. Te Papa section* fetched an average of 3s fid an jicre; Te Apata, 4s !)d ; Taupiri, 4s Gd. There was a .small attendance, and the business was not by any moans spirited. The auctioneers state that this is the ruling price for similar land at Masterton.
