Messrs Hunter and Nolans Weekly Report.—Horses: The number brought forward for disposal has been below the average, and as the weather has been severe,' people are unwilling to increase their stocks, hoping for a spring in grass and a decrease in the price of cereals. The number submitted by auction at the Durham 'Yards wap scarcely ao large as on the previous week, but the lot of eight purebred Shetland ponies attracted considerable attention, and sold at from £5 to £9. There was steady competition throughout, and but few lots were withdrawn for higher figures. We quote hacks at from £5 to £12 10s, light harness horses £11 to £14 ss, medium draught £18- 10s. The- allotment with 82 feet frontage to Queen-street, Onehunga, sold iby order of the Official Assignee, in the estate of F. Cundy, realised £340. Wool, hides, and skins : A small number of hides were pitched, and competition was slack. We quote heavy hides at from 3d to 3fd per lb., light 2Jd to 2\d, skins 2s 8d to 3s 6d, tallow 12s to 13s Od per cwt. Cattle : There has been a good deal of animation in the market. The number offered has been up to the average, but there was an improved demand, and pi ices had an upward tendency. The beef pens at Newmarket were fairly well filled, but only a limited number of dairy and store stocks were yarded, but there was an unusually large muster of the latter at Papakura on Wednesday. The demand has been brisk, and an advanced value given. We quote : Calves from 15s to 23s each, yearlings from 21s to 31s, dry cows from £2 2s Od to £2 17s 6d, grown steers from £3 12s Od to £4 ss, fat cows from £4 to £6 15s, steers from £5 2s Od to £8 10s, or from 17s to 20s per lOOlbs. Sheep : The butchers' pens at Newmarket on Tuesday were well filled, but few stores were offered. Competition was spirited throughout the sale, and an advance of Is each was given, although 10s Gd for wethers was the highest price obtained, there being no heavy weights. Ewes sold at from 11s to 14s, lambs from 7s to 12s. Pigs: Very few were yarded. There remains an unsatisfied fiemand for local fed porkers.
