The Customs returns for the month show a great falling off. The principal ports are Auckland, £21,163 ; Wellington, £10,087 ; Ohristchurch, £12,502; Dunedin, £28,570. The total for the colony is £lOS,ti-12, against £121,026" for Aupfust of last year. Thfi estimated monthly average is* £117,500. The beer duty is-AuckUnd, £80.1; Wellington. £324 ; Chmtchnrch, £632 ; Dunedin, £080. The total for the month U £3402, against £3578 for Aupust <»f 1885. The estimated monthly iivpufire is £4583.
