The Australian cricketers commenced a match to-day at Gravesend apainst the South of England. The team w.\h cotnpoHod as follows : —Patterson (Kent), YV. \V. Read (Surrey), Bowley, Lohmann, Maurice Read (Surrey), G. G. Hearn, F. Hf am, Wooton (Kent), Jess© Hide, Humphries (Suney), Wwof (Gloucestershire). The weather was fine, and there was a very Lugo attendance. The Australians went in first and remained at the wickets until the stumps were drawn for the day, when the scoie .stood at 282, with seven wickets down, the highest contributors beinjj: Palmer, caught, 1)3 ; and Bonnor, c.iught, 43.
