Peter's Komaii Catholic Church. To say that the performance was a pood one, and the actor-? well up t<> their business would be by far to » faint pnise, for it m.ty safely be averted that n<> profesMonal company which has a-, yet appeared in the district has ever put a piece on the stage in a manner equal to the repie««entatiou given on Tuesday. Too often a travelling company is made up of one star and half a do^iMi sticks, ami a company whero all the members are capable of pi tying refined coined v h seldom .-.pen out of the large towns ; but in the cw« of tlio anuteurs who gave such a treat to their audience at Cambridge, each one was everything that could he desired in his or her p.ut. The tnitx r paitof lielmda, the "ttlivey," was .ldmiru>ly played, and in the scene where indignantly thro.vs down the halt sovereign "tipped" her by Mr Middlewick .she received a round of applause and a number of floral t»ibut"s, as inde»<l did the other ladies of the rumpe, the gentlemen also Ixmiijj the ir' i i|)ient> of -i.ml.4i tokens of approbation. The put or (;iaii»a Clumpney wan aeti-d to tl.e life, md among the audience opinions \vi p- divided .»s to whom to award the palm aniontr the ladies, some f»v ouritig' M.iry Melrosp, which was nn excellent impels ju.itiou, otheiN Violet Melrose, who left nothing to be desired, and others the l«>die-> previously mentioned. Kach had her partisans, and the general feeling seemed to be that honours were divided. Among the gentlemen, Mr Tempter was deserving of the utmost credit, for his acting and conception of the character would have done ciedit to the boards of any Metropolitan theatre. Mi Sandes made » splendid Peikyn Middlewick, and wart got up excellently^ Mr Greville Smith as the dignified Sir (ieoftery, looked the character to the life, and Mr Hcniy Steele made a capital Charles Middlewick. The company .ue to be congratulated on tho successful manner in which they have got up the piece, which showed signa of nateful rehearsal and excellent .stage management. It is to be hoped they may be induced to repeat the performance shortly. Miss Misnen presided at the pi, mo and rendered sweet music for the overture and during the interludes. Before the cm tain rose for the thiid act, tho Kev. Father Fox returned thanks to the audience for their attendance on a Htormy night, and also to the company who had so kindly given their sen ices to entertain them, and to assist the cause of the chinch. He was certain that the audience would cordially endorse his opinion that better or more capital acting had not been seen on that stage. In a financial Doint of vijw, the results of tho performance were most satisfactory.
