Parliament was formally opened to-day by Royal Commission. The Queen's Speech read on the occasion was brief. It said the country had confirmed the conclusion arrived at by the last Parliament upon the pro posed legislation for Ireland. The question of finance compelled the summoning of Parliament at this time, but the present being the usual period for recess, and owing to the past labours of Parliament this year, Her Majesty recommended that only financial measures be considered during the the session now opened.
