THE NEW HOSPITAL DISTRICT.

Wk learn by telegram from our Wellington correspondent that Mr Whyte's victory iv getting the Piako district separated from the hospital district has been much commented on in the lobbies, and Mr Whyte is credited with having scored one of the most decided successes of the session. The uphill nature of the fight wan owing to the prevalent feeling in the House that the boundaries of the hospital districts should not be interfered with, and' also owing to the fact that the Government supporteis were strongly interested in keeping the boundaries as they originally were. In this they were strongly supported by the Premier. As your rendersjare no doubt aware, Mr Whytc's efforts in effecting tho separation of the districts will relieve the Piako district from a heavy burden by which it had to contribute £1400 a year to the Thames, whilst the other three counties and one borough only contributed K7OO. The Piako is now joined to a kindred district with which it is also connected by railway, and its burdens will thereby bo very much lessened. Tho ! new hospital district will now bo a splendid one one with nearly two and a half millions worth of rateable property and all completely opened by railway.
