WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.
A MKicrixu of the Wai pa County Council was lield on Tuesday, August 10th, at Ohanpo. Present ; Cr». (Hermann, (chairman), Hunter, Lang, Smith, Teasdale, and Monciieff. The usual prehuiinaries being disposed of the engineer's report was submitted. The engineer also submitted a letter from Mr Vwcliall, stating his entire satisfaction with the drainage works on the HamiltonWhatawhata road. Works Authorised. — Authority was given the engineer to repair the protective teuce ?it tho large culvert on the AlexandraTe Awamutu road, near Mr Allens, and to erect a protective fence at Walker's Gully, also to invite tendprs for the refuse timber from the Alexandra- Mangapiko bridge, tha timber to be in two lots. Ngauuawahia Punt.— The engineer reported that a new rope was necessary. It was agreed to bear half the cost of a new rope if the town board would pay half also. Waggon Tires. — The committee appointed having stated what they h.id done in the matter, ordinary business was suspended to hear the opinions, of several earners who were present.. Mr Roche pointed out the hardship of having to obtain new wheels for waggons in the event of the council making wide tires compulsory, and also that the present extraordinary traffic would cease when the railway was completed so as to take up its own material. The matter was finally held over for next meeting, the clerk being instructed meanwhile to ascertain what regulations are m force elsewhere to prevent carrying such excessive loads with narrow wheels. CoRHKsroNDEXOK. — A letter was read from the Bank, acknowledging receipt of treasurer's bonds. — A complaint was lodged by Mr Keely, respecting water flooding his land. The engineer repotted that the council had done nothing to bring the water there or prevent it running away. The clerk was directed to reply that the council admitted no responsibility. — A further claim was received from Mr Conn for work done. The council refused to re-open the subject. —The Pukekura Road Board wrote, complaining of the manner in which the gravel pits were being worked by the contractors. — The engineer was directed to take steps to prevent the recurrence of the complaint. Time Table.— A communication was received from the Traffic Manager re service of trains, and statinpr that the extra expense was not justified by the traffic. The clerk was directed to communicate with the M.H.R. on the subject. Hamilton -Ohaupd Road.— Notice was received from the Treasury of the payment of first advance on the grant for roads, Hamilton to Ohaupo. Ratks.— The clerk was directed to take proceedings for recovery of rates due. Tex i jerk.— Contract "No. 44, excavation, formation and pipes : McCallum, Bd, 7d, and 4s per chain ; Meredith, 7d, 4s l>d, and la (>d ; Reid, (>H 2s, and 8d ; Dellicar, Is 2d per cubic yard each, respectively, Con- < tract No. 4.*), excavation, formation, and j pipes : McCallum, Bd, 4s, and Is ; Meredith, 7d, 4s (id, and Is (id ; Reid, s'jjd per yard, respectively. The tender of W. Reid was accepted for No. 44 and 45.— Contract No. 48 : O'Connor, £34 10s. After considerable discussion, it was agreed that the engineer temporarily repair for three months, and tenders be again called for this work. The engineer was directed to confer with Cr. Smith as to the desirability of changing the road near the Alexandra cemetery. This concluded the business, and the council rose.
