Wednesday Night. Thk football match between Auckland, and Wellington caused great Interest.* There were seven thousand people on the ground. - Mr J. White side, who made a short run, but was brought to ground speedily by King. The Wellington men then worked the ball into Auckland twenty-five, in front of the, goal', when a scrummage took place. J. A. Warbrick got hold of the ball, but came to tho ground. This was followed by "a Rood run up field by the Auckland forward* and a good run by Warbrick, after which Whiteside got hold of the ball, and after a short but smart run scored the first try for Auckland, amidst deafening cheep, ttyan made 4 splendid attempt to kick a, goal, but theball stopped short of the bar by a couple of feet. $i ter the kick off the ball was worked 'into Auckland's half* A clone ocrummage thon took place. Poland, after it short run, made, a pass to Arneil, who kicked it out of bounds. Another grand ruHb.by the >Attcklanders was stopped, by Pearce* > after which lairbrother transferred the ball by a splendid kick through the boundary line. The lost ground* was picked up by Whiteside, who brought the ball down in the sonth east ancjle of the ground,, where Meldrum got the leather and* carried it over the line, scoring the next try amidst tremendous applause. Again Ryan took the place-kick, but failed to score. This made Auckland four points to Wellington's nothing. The play hll through was very fast, the greatest excitement being exhibited by the spectators. In the second spell Wellington scored a try. No further score was made, and when time was called the .scorn stood:—Auckland, 4 points; Wellington, 2 points. Wellington lodged a protest against tho try obtained by Whiteside.
