Mr Lake thought the section for levying arato was an unfair, .one. "Mr Lance pointed out that this particular clause was optipna], ; and would only be brought into operation at the request of the residents of the locality. Sir J. Vogel was not ,sure whether the introduction rif stoats anil weasels would not be a greater pest than the rabbits themselves, and ho considered from a scientific .point of view that the natural enetny of -the rabbit was the fox. He thought the best course was to get some dupable person to go' into • the question scientifically, 60 as to ascertain whether 1 the rabbits oould not be best destroyed by disease. • • ' ! After some further discussion the motion was agreed to. Mr Richardson moved the second reading of the District Railways Purchasing Act 1885 Extension and amendment Bill. (Left Sitting.)
