The detectives who have been following on the trail of the men wandering through the Waitakerci ranges came upon two ferngathftrers from Auckland, who evidently corresponded with the men who had called at . Watdcy's and other places. This ended tho supposition that these men were identical with the fugith es, but Detective Twohey is still of opinion that the men whose trail they first followed was Caffrey. Superintendent Thomson has ordered their return to town fi>r instructions.
