HAMILTON SPORTS SUBSCRIBERS.

A mketixg of the subscribers to the Hamilton Christmas Sports Fund, 1885, was held in the Commercial Hotel last night to^ecide in what wfeythe^ balance of funds in hand should be disposed of. Present: Messrs Bindon, G. White, Sotn'ers, H. Biggs, G. H. Carter, A. Scott, J. A. Bradley, Gelling, W. A. Graham, C. Tippen, P. Mnnro, G. French, R. Peat, C. Barton, G. Kdgecumbo, Salmon, Stevens, C. LeQuesne. Mr G. Edgecumbe was voted to the chair. I Mr Bindon proposed that a sum of £5 should be devoted to the funds of the library conditionally on a further sum being subscribed sufficient to purchase the library offered by Mr Jessop. Mr Carter seconded. Mr Tippen thought that everyone would acknowledge the desirability of purchasing the library, and he would move as an amendment, "That £10 be voted to the Public Library fund, on the same conditions t\n stated by Mr Bindon, and that the balance be devoted to further improvements on Sydney Square. Mr W. A. Graham seconded. On being put to the meeting, the amendment was carded, and became the substantive motion. Several other amendments were put and lost. An amendment, proposed by Mr Barton, seconded by Mr Stevens, " That the whole sum be kept in hand for next annual uports," was then carried, and became the subsfcant)v& motion; upon which, as a further amendment, Mr Tippen moved, seconded by Mr French, " That a «urn «£ £0 10-s lid be handed to the Library Committee, and the hatauce be devoted to improvements on Sydney Square," which wa9 carried. No further amendments being proposed, the above resolution was dnly pnfc and carried, and the meeting terminated.
