Heavy Damages for Libel.

The action for libel brought against the Globe newspaper, by Mr J. CPledge, formerly British Vice-Consul at Kertch, was concluded in the Queen's Bench Division yesterday. Plaintiff sought to recover damages from the Globe for the publication of a paragraph, supplied by the Central News Agency, alleging that plaintiff was at the head of an association at Kertch e>tabli«bed for the purpose of wiecking British vessels. Mr Justice Grove said the defendants had not proved that the statements in the paragraph concerning Mr Colledge were true, and the jury found for the plaintiff, damages £1,00). Remarkable Court-martial.—lnfor-mation is brought by the Union Company's steamship Trojan, which arrived in Plymouth Sound on Monday, that at Maritzburg a court-martial had been held by the Imperial military authorities to investigate a charge against Captain T. Shepstone, C M.G., of the Natal Carabineers, of having appropriated certain documents off the body of the late Colonel Durnforrl, who was killed in the general massacre at Isandlana, and at whose interment after the massacre Captain Shepstone was present, the supposed object of the alleged abstraction ot the documents being to shield General Lord Chelmsfonl from blame on account of the ma&bacre. The Court is understood to have acquitted Captain Shepstone.
