SPORTING. New Zealand Grand National Steeplehcase Meeting.
Thk above meeting came off on the C.J.C. course on Thursdiy. The weather was simply all that could be desired, and the attendance large. For the "big event" of the meeting there were six candidates, and after a hard fought race with Faugh-a-Ballagh, Canard won by three lengths :— Thk Nkw Zkaland Guano National Handicap «f 32">->ovs. ; about four miles. Mr H. Lunn's Canard 1 Mr P. Butler's Faugh-a-Ballagh . ... 2 Mr G. B. Starkey'.s Michael Scott . U Time — imuns. lo^secs. Dividends : £3 8s and £2 19s. Mvidbn Pi, ytk or 115sovs ; about two miles. Secretary 1 Warlock 2 Hunter's Handicap Hukdkk Race, of 75 soys ; about two miles. Launger ... 1 Kinsr Aithur 2 Aroha 3 Time, 4min. 12sec < '. Dividends : £24 10s, and t'34 (is. Tally-ho Hvndicap, of ll.'hovs.; about two miles and a- half. Victor 1 Main boom .. . . . . 2 The Lad 3 The Ykomav Cavalry Steeplechase, for a trophy, was won tiy Trooper C. H. Lucy.
