[UKUTKK'S IELEGRAMS.I Final Returns The Position of Parties. London, Tulyl7. The whole of the elections are now completed. They have resulted in the return of 316 Conservatives, 78 Unionists, 91 Gladstonitea, So Farnellites. A petition has been lodged against- the return of Mr Alex. McArthur, for tho Buckro«»e division of Yorkshire. Sir Evelyn Ashley, who wai Undersecretary for the Colonies in the pre\ ions Gladstone Administration, has been defeated. It is expected that the Ministry will tender their resignation immediately, but but it is considered unlikely that a co.ilition will be effected between the Conservatives and Unionists. Lord Granville has announced hi-* intention of retiring into private life. The Marquis of Huntingdon has declined to accept Mr Gladstone's suggested modification of the Home Rule proposal*. Mr Gladstone's letter to the Pi ess indicates a tendency to a repeal of tho Union, and to the abolition of the House of Lords. Mr Goldwin Smith asks whether such a man, in the frame of mind that Mr Gladstone in, is n't to deal with Ireland. The Times denounces Mr Gladstone's travesties of history as baseless, and the charges made by him against his opponents as unfair. It also considers that he attacks many of his old friends. Many of the English journals follow in the same strun, and say that the vulgarity of his epitlu-ts i<* turning his defeat into personal humiliation.
