ENTHRONEMENT OF BISHOP MOORHOUSE.
Thk enthronement of Dr Moorhouse, the new Bishop of Manchester, took place on May 18 at the cathedral of the Diocese, and was witnessed by a large gathering of clergy, and al6o by members and officials of the Manchester and Salford Corporations and justices of the City and Borough, who matched to the Cathedral in procession, headed by bands of music. Thestreetsnearthe Cathedral wore thronged ed with people, and the building itself was crowded. In the evening tho Mayor of Manchester entejtained the Bi»hop and home 1200 guests .at a conversazione at the Town Hall. In the course of an addre>s which he delivered, the Bishop s.ud he believed ho had come from a more settled to u less settled state of soci.il stability He felt there w.is less room for social movements in Victoria than there was in England, nor when they thought of it w.is that wonderful, because the Victorian people began with a clean sheet. Victorian people did not feel the effects of European Socialism like many English working people did. Of course, they knew of these Socialistic principle^, and small section* of them evhibited the usual effect*, but generally Socialism in Victoria wa> not a force which had seriously to be reckoned with.
