Waikato Times Office, Friday. WAIKVI'O MARKETS. Messrs W. J. Hlni'iir and Co. report :— That at their cattle and horse sale, held at Cambridge on Saturday last, there was a large attendance. A fair number of cattle yarded, some choice young cattle selling very freely. Not many beef were required for local use, and only limited number sold. Fat heifers, £3 10s to £4; fat steers, £G each ; empty cows, £2 5s ; yearling heifers, £1 10s ; heifer calves, 18s ; fat sheep, 8s and 8a Gd each ; 180 crossbred ewes in lamb, 8s each. The trees advertised were in excess of requirements, and only part sold. There was a large number of horses entered, and a good number changed hands, principally medium draughts. We quote: Hacks from £4 to £7 ; medium draughts, £11 to £15 each ; fat turkeys made 3s each ; tip dray, £9 15s. The sale was concluded in good tune, and many persons present expressed their approval of having both salet> held on the one day instead of two a.s heretofore. At Oh.mpo on Tuesday last, although an extremely wet day, there was a full muster of stock of all clashes. No really good dairy cows ju&t at calving yarded. They wore in request, and many more could have been placed at satisfactory prices to vendors. A large number of cows to calve in spring made re.\dy sale, being of a good class, and could be recommended. Fully 100 steer calves yarded. They were all in low Condition, but all sold with the exception of one lot. Some really choice steers, from two to four years old, weYe well competed for, and all sold. 55 good ones, three to four years old, in fresh condition, sold in one lot for £5 per head. There is good enquiry for heifers of any ago, and if well bred, sell well. Fat cattle were well represented, and full number required penned. They were of very choice quality, and only one pen of three remained unsold. There was a very large number of sheep of all classes penned, and nearly all sold. We quote : Dairy cows, £4 10s to £5 ss ; backward cows and heifers, £2 10* to £4 2s (id ; one and a-half-year-old heifers, £1 9s to £1 18s ; steer calves, £1 5s t<» £1 16s ; two-year-old steers, £2 (is to £2 15s ; three-year-old steers, £3 17s to £4 ot ; three and four-year-old steers in fresh condition, £4 5s to £5 ; store cows, £2 12s (id ; fat heifers and cows, £3 15s to £4 12s 6d ; hoggets, fis 9d ; fat ewes, 7s (id to 9s 6d ; crossbred ewes (low-conditioned) in lamb, 7s 3d each. We have also disposed of privately, through the week, a number of dairy cows at from £4 15s to £7; medium draught mare, £15 ; buggy, £24 ; hacks £6 and £8 each. Messrs Alfred BucKr.ANn & Co. Report :— At Cambridge on Saturday, 3rd inst., cattle were ottered in usual numbers, and all a#ld at fair value. Dairy cows to £6 10s ; fat cows, £3 10s to £7 7s (id ; grown steers, £3 17s Gd ; smaller steers, £2 ; and good yearling^, £2 7s 6d. At the sale of poultry, <fee., there was a very large attendance. Prices were : Fowls, Is (id each ; pigs, 7s each ; carrots, 3s per bag ; 8 tons chaff, £3 10s to £3 13.5 ; 120 bags oats, £2 10s per bushel. Horses in more than usual number, and many sold at fair prices. Three riding horses at £20 each, to go to Sydney ; draughts, £10 ; other sorts, £2 10s to £8 10s. At Ohaupo on Tuesday, Gth, there was (in consequence of the cattle from Whakatane not coining forwaid) a very small market, but all sold at good prices. Dairy cows, £2 to £(> 10s ; ateer calves. 17s to £1 7s Gd ; fat cows, from £3 10s to £5 ss ; fat steers, £5 15s. At Waitoa on Thursday, the Bth, there was a very large attendance of buyers from all parts, and the cattle oftered, being of a very choice quality, elicited brisk bidding. U-year-old steers, from £1 17s Gd to £3 ; grown steers, from £3 to £ 1 18s ; spayed heifers, from £2 to £2 Gs ; and cows in calf, at £1 17s 6d each ; pen of steers off turnips, from Annandale. £4 15s each. At Hetherington and McKnights special sale on Wednesday, the 14th, there was a numerous attendance, and prices ruled high. Two draught horses, £40 each ; 2 ditto at £30 each ; 1 ditto, at £31 ; and lat -12 ; hacks. £3 12s Gd and £9 5s ; waggons, £9 to £25 ; drays, £5, £S 10s and £10 ; sledges, 5s to £1 Is ; single plough, £3 ss; double plough, £10; harrows, £2 15s ; disc harrows, £8 : stable and shed, £28 10s ; oats, 3s 4d per bushel ; chaff, 2s 5d per bag ; bran, 7s Gd per bag ; cow, £2.
auckland live stock m vhkets. Mr Alfred Buckland's Weekly Report. — At the Hay market, on Friday, July 9, loose fodder brought up to 4s 3d ; pressed hay, 5a and 3s Gd the cwt. ; bonedust, £7 the ton. Grain was sold in large quantities ; oats, from 2s 6d to 3s 3d ; maize, 2s 9d to 2s lid the bushel. Horse stock were in usual number ; a limited number from the Coa^t were fairly competed for at a slight improvement in values, after those were sold bidding was nominal. At the hide and akin sale on Tuesday, hides were pitched in usual number; but quality ranged from 3/d to 4^d ; calfskins 4d and 4£d the Ib, but competitions was not so brisk as of late ; tallow, 13s the cwt ; pelts and skins, from 4d to Is lOd each ; wool, Gd the lb. x\t llenmcra on Thursday, dairy cows were yarded in full number and in good demand, best animals near their profit brought from £7 to £9 ; medium from £4 upwards. .Store cattie, in usual supply, were dull of tule and at lower values. Fat cattle, in Usual .supply, sold freely, prices for good steers ranged from lGs to 18s ; cows from 14s to 17s the 1001b. Fat sheep were yarded in full number, and were required ; an advance on heavy weights of about la each was obtained. Good wethers ranged from 13s to I.ls 9d ; ewes, from 9s to 11s each ; longwoolled ewes forward in lamb brought 11s each ; last season's lambs from 9s to 13s ; and a few early lambs from 19s J to 23s each. Fat calves plentiful, and Bold freely at full prices. Well-bred house-fed pifiT3 sold well, but coarse pigs were at low values. xYJkssrs Hunter and Nolans Wkkkly Repoht.— HoroP-. : A great number have been brought forward and found purchases, but principally low-priced animals, and there was noteworthy alteration in value. There was a large number of entries at the Durham Yards on Friday, and steady competition, but the highest prices realised were for hacks £11 ; light harness horses, £16 ; medium draught, £20. Wool, hides, and skins. No good ox-hides were pitched, but station and light hides sold freely. We quote hides at from 2£d to 4id per lb; Bkins, at from Is Gd to lt> lOd each ; wool in bags, G^d per lb. Cattle : The supply has not been a large one, nor has there been any change in value worthy of note except perhaps a little upward tendency in prime fat oxen. There was but a small muster at the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday, and the inclement weather had a depressing effect on the price of stock. Dairy cows were of much the same value as on the previous week. Fat beasts sold at from £9 12s Gd to £G 1-js each. Sheep: Fat sheep were yarded in limited numbers on Tuesday, and there was a good many .stoics, but the latter being in low condition sold at from 3s to 4s Gd, mixed sp\es. Fat wethers sold at from 12s 3d to 17s each ; ewes, from 9s to 13s. Pigs: Rather shoit supply and good de mand, at from 2d to 3^,d per lb. Messrs G. \V. Binney and Sons' Report.—At our .sales on Tuesday last we offered a very large catalogue of hides, &o. The bidding for hides was very languid, several local buyers not competing. We sold the majority privately. Prime heavy o\ hides realised up to 3os each ; heavy, 23s to 20s, at which figure we sold over 100. Cow hides are dull of «ale at present, sold from 12s r»d to 13-. Gd each ; country hides, 3d to 3}d per lb ; damaged, 2d to 2.' 5 d ; calfskins, 4d to 4]; d per lb. Sheepskins : Competition brisk for all offered. Country skins, Is Gd to Is lid ; local butchers, green, 2s 8d to 2-, 9d each. Tallow: Nothing fresh to report.
