WKLUxaroK, Friday. The disappearance of A. L. Levy, J.P. Secretary of the Temperance AJliancu i-» «till shrouded in mystery. At first the general opinion was that Levy had taken x passage to Sydney by the Hauroto which left here the in me day an he disappeared. A cele:?ram 4 wa« to-day received by the proprietors of the Evening Post frotn Capt. Kennedy of the Hauroto, in reply to an enquiry by them, which said that no such person as Levy was a passenger by the Hauroto. Sir Geo. Whitmore also received a cablegram from the Inspector Oneral of Police in Sydney as follows: — "No trace of Levy by the steamer Hauroto.' The suppoKition now in that Levy h«3 met wich *i fatal accident, and a large search party will to-morrow make an examination of the foreshore of the harbour, it being feared that he may have been drowned. The circumstances of his disappearance are of such a peculinr nature that they have caused quite a sensation in town. The Post to-night says it has authority for stating that Sir Julius Vogel has instructed Mr Travers, solicitor, to issue a warrant against both the New Zealand Times and Evening Press for libel contained in the articles published in their columns in regard to the District Railway Debentures Committee report. In each case, damages are laid at £5000.
