The latent election return* give the state of parties as follows : — Conservatives 290 Unionists 62 Gladstonites , 14(1 Parnellites 72 The Marquis of Harrington has been reelected for Kossendale in Lancashire, and Mr Leonard Courtney has been re-elected for Bodmin. Mr G, O. Trevelyan, who in March last resigned the position of Secretary for Scotland in Mr Gladstone's Government, has been defeated for the Border Burghs, by a Gladstonite candidate. Mr Joseph Arch, a labour candidate, and Mr Timothy Healy, Nationalist, have been defeated for NoTth-yrost Norfolk and Londonderry respectively. Conservative candidates have been elected for Liberal seats of Harhorough (Leicestershire), Stowtnarket (Suffolk), Ripon (Yorkshire). Gainsborough (Lincolnshire), North-west Staffordshire, Hyde (Cheshire), Rom ford (Essex), Penrith (Cumberland), Biergleswade (Bedfordshire), Chippenham (Wilts), Maldon (K*aex), and the Middloton division of Lancashire. Glad^tonitn candidates have secured former Liberal seats for Osgold Cross (Yorkshire) and Car digan.
