DOG FAT A CURE FOR CONSUMPTION.
A xew and remarkable cure for consumption, which is said to eclipse all the played-out nostrums of quacks, has just been patented, by a destitute and dying German citizen of America. The following is the history of the case : — Frank Bratz, with his wife and two children, came from .Poinmern, in East Germany, Hvo years ago. While working at a stone-yard ou Fifth Avenue he contracted consumption, and has been dying by inches for about three years. The family lived on milk and potatoes all summer, but when overtaken by the chill of winter, were forced to make their wants known, and received generous supplies of fuel, food, and money trom the poor fund and private philanthropy. Bratz coughs almost incessantly, and with such violence that his face becomes purple, and it takes him some time to recover his breath. To one of the charitable women who have attended so devotedly to his wants, he recently confided the secret that he had a new remedy for his cough. In reply to the ministering angel's inqniry as to what it was, he replied that it was "dog's grease,' and that he ate it on bread the same as butter. He then informed his visitor that the remedy had been confided to him by a fellow- workman, while the dogs had been furnished by an obliging farmer named Rohrer, who lived near by. Rohrer killed the first animal for him, and after the bead a»d feet were removed the remainder ot the carcass was rendered in a wash, boiler into something resembling lard. The first dog, partaking too much of the nature of the greyhound, yielded but little grease, so three weeks ago a better flavoured canine was sacrificed to the god of health, and gave up enough grease to ease his lungs for two months. Mrs Br<\tz, with true wifely instinct, to make the mess more palatable for her husband, cut up among the last rendering a couple of large onions, and tho combination is now swallowed by the consumptive with increased zest.
A BitAKEMAN who was caught between two freight cars the other day was describing his sufferings to his wife. "Why," «he evclnimed^ " that's just the w.iy it feels when you are breaking in a now pair
