MASONIC. Lodge Beta. — Installation of Officers.
The ceremony of installing the W.M. and officers of the above lodge took place in the Masonic Hall, Hamilton East, on Thursday evening. There wuh a very large gathering uf the brethren, the number present being fully fifty. Fifteen came from Cambiiuge, and about a dozen were members of other lodges in various parts of the colony. There were eight P.M. 'a on the dias. Bro. P. M. Murray acted as Inbtalling Master in a most efficient manner, being ably assisted by Bro. Dey, the retiring W.M. The charges, given by the former were especially impressive, and were listened to with rapt attention by the brethren. The W.M. elect, Bro. S. E. Greville Smith, having been duly installed, proceeded to invest the other officers as follows :-S.W., Bro. C. J. W. Barton; J.W., Bro. R. Edwards; Chaplain, Bro. Re\. R. O'C. Biggs; Secretary and Treasurer, Bro. Geo. Edgecumbe, P.M. ; S.D., Bro. W.F. Bell; J. 1)., Bro. Geo. White ; 1.G., Bro. H.I. Biggs ; Tyler, Bro. Pascoe. At the close of the ceremony the brethren and their visitors adjourned to the Oddfellows' Hall, where they sat down to an excellent cold collation, provided by Bro. Bell iv a style that left nothing to be desired. The end of the hall next the stage had been curtained off, decorated with Masonic mottoes, emblems, banners, &<•., aud presented a very pretty appearance. Tho chair was occupied by the W.M., haring on his right Bro. Sargent, W.M., Lodge Alpha, Bros. P.M. Murray, Edgecumbe and McPherson, Mid on his left Bro. Dey, 1. P.M., and Bros. P.M. B.uiiskill, Primrose and Gaudin. The S.W. and J.W. occupied their regular places in the west and south, respectively. The following is a list of the toasts :— (iueen ami Craft, proposed by the W.M., Bro. Groville Smith ; H.R.H. the Prince of Wales, M.W.G.M. of England, proposed by the W.M. ; The M.W.P.G.M. of England, and the M. W.G.M.'s of Ireland and Scotland, proposed by the S.W., Bro. Barton; The P.G.M.1.C., Bro. Pierce, the D.G.M.E.C., Bro. Graham, and the P.G.M.S.C., Bro. Sir F. Whitaker, proposed by the J.W,, Bro. Edwards ; Sister Lodges, proposed by Bro. Dey, 1.P.M,, and responded to by Bros. Sargent and E. L. Smith(Lodge Poiwonby); The W.M. of Lodge Beta, proposed by Bro. Sergent, W.M. Lodge Alpha; The Installing Masters, proposed by Bro. Brunskill, and re*ponded to by Bros. Dey and Murray ; Our visiting Brethren, proposed by Bro. Geo. E jgecumbu, and re xponded to by Bros. Hickson and Horrell ; The officers of Lodge Beta, proposed by Bro. T. B. Lewis (Alpha), and responded to by Bro. Barton ; The P.M's of Lodge Beta, proposed by Bro. T. G. Sandes, and responded to by Bros. Primrose and Gaudin ; Masons' Wives and Bairns proposed by Bro. McPherson, and the Tyler's toast. The toasts were interspersed with song", music &c, aud a most enjoyable evening was spent by all the brethren present. The proceedings terminated with the singing of " Auld Lang Syne," and the National Anthem.
