THAMES, Friday. William Rowe, formerly M.H.R., for the Thames District, died this morning, aged GG. For twenty years he has been intimately connected with the district, having arrived at the opening of the «oM fields, and have been manager of moit of the gold-producing mines, the famous Caledonian among them. He waa a member of the Provincial Council for Newton, and one of the provincial executive under the Hon. J. Williamson. iSiuce then he has been on every Thames local body. Being so well and widely known and respected his death is greatly regretted. He died from bronchitis and subsequent prostration. He has been ailing for about five weeks. OPOTOKI, Friday. *
Morewood, clerk of the Farmeri' Ciub, Opotiki, has been arrested on • charge ot attempting to burn down the club's premises. He was remanded until Saturday, bail beinp rrfused. DUNEDIN, Thnrsday.
As an outcome of the meeting on Home Rule, the Major to-day sent the follov> ing cablegram to Mr Gladstone : — "Crowded meeting of citizens of all classes, the Mayor presiding, unanimously carried resolution in admiration of youi gieat policy, and favouring Home Rule Utmost enthusiasm and loyalty to the throne were displayed.''
