THE LATEST. [BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Monday.

At the inquest on the body of Edward Mullen, very little fresh evidence was elicited. A witness swore to the deceased and Roberts (who is suspected of causing his death) having been on a drinkidg bout. i Medical evidence was of opinion that death resulted from drowning. The coroner said that on the evidence nduced the jury could only rotum an open verdict. The evidence was not lufficient to bring suspicion upon Robert*, though, no doubt, ho had I placed himself in an unfortunate position by having been drunk with deceased. On the other hand, his statement* to the widow and to the police wero in his favour. The coroner did not think they were justified in keeping Roberts in custody on such evidence as had been adduced. Itwaa quite possible that two drunken men might havo been walking »long the breastwork arid one of them might J»ye fallen into the water,- or the ottvpcjmigtft hive stumbled against him and knogkjed huu in. and so far as he could ice 4fojtorts'l?eh»viour after the disappearance told in bis favour. The jury returned a verdict ot " Found Drowned. ' Roberts will appear before the Magistrate to-morrow.
