The cricket match, Australians v. a team representing the Flayers of England, c"ommenced at Nottingham to-day. The weather was cold and inclement, but the attendance was good. The wicket wan lively. The players went in first, lending Scotton and Shrewsbury to the. wickets. Scotton was bowled for nine. TJUyett followed, but was bowled before he scored. Shrewsbury was caught for 15. Barnes, who had succeeded UUyett, was now joined by Gunn, and runs came pretty freely until Barnes was given out l.b.w. with 14 to his credit. Barlow was next man in, and by careful play the score rapidly mounted. Gunn was bawled when his tcore reached 13, and Brigga joined Barlow, but was disposed of for 13. Lee followed, but watt caught when he had put together 21, and was succeeded by Maurice Head, who, however, was bowled after scoring 11* Flowers now joined Barlow, and runs came freely, both players holding their position at the wickets until the close of the day's play. The following is the detailed score:— Players of England, first innines : Scotton, b, 9 ; Shrewsbury, c, 15; UUyett, b, 0; Barnes, 1.b.w., 14; Gunn. b, 23' Briggs, b, 13; Lee, c, 23; Maurice Read, b 11 : Barlow, not, out, 80 ; Flowers, not out, 48; extra*, 10; total for eight wickets, 244.
