THE LATEST. Dr Hector's Telegram to the Government. Wellington, Last Night.

The Government received the following telegram from Dr Hector :— " Just received your wire offering assistance. It is impossible to do any more at present. The weather is broken and the country rough. The road to the volcano is quite impassable with risk of life besides. Much steam and vapour at Tarawera. The central point of interest is still in active eruption. Plenty of time for scientists yet. I have sufficient observations for the present, and will consult with you on Monday."
