DUNEDIN, Tuesday. At a meeting of the policyholders of tho Government Life Insuianee Association, to hear Mr Fisher's views, a motion favouring his scheme for future management was carried by an overwhelming majority as against on* to hand back the management to the Government. A motion was also carried favouring the establishment of local boards, and suggesting that the Government should embody a clause to that effect in the Bill.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. At the Magistrate's Court, Matthew Johnston was charged with stabbing James Mclntyre at l'aikakaraki yesterday. The accused, who pleaded guilty, was sentenced to two months hard labour, and \va3 ordered to find sureties for keeping the peace after his release. Councillor Robin, of Dunedin, denies that he is here prosecuting the claims of the Dunedin Corporation against the Go vermnent in connection with the blasting explosion in Dunedin.

INVERCARGILL, Tuesday. The North Invercargill Licensing Committee to day closed the only licensed house in their district, the Clinton Arms Hotel. The adjoining disttict of Invercargill (sic) closed the only hotel last year. The Bluff Harbour Board did not confirm the bylaw reducing the wage and port charges as previously carried. The rates therefore remain as formerly. A four- roomed house at Hawthorne, owned by Miss Gondly, was burnt this morning. The cau^f is unaccounted for The insurance is £100 in the Northern Assurance Company. Wednesday. There has been a considerable fall of anow to-day. News has been received that Egremont. The defaulting secretary of the Adelaide Building Society, has been sentenced to six yeais.
