SAD AND GLAD.
•* What is the trouble ?" said Kenneth to Colin. "Why do I find you thus sad ? Where is the maiden^that w»s as your shadow? Wkere have you left her, my lad ? 0, how you doted On her ! How devoted You were ! And she would be true, Though you might leave her, And basely deceive her, Still she'd be faithful to you. What ! you forsook her? Carlessly shook her Out of your loving embrace ? Leaving her lonely and desolate, only Craving a sight of your face ? Metals together must strike er« they mingle ; Let not ft slight quarrel part, Far beyond feeling, or prospect of healing, Two so united in heart. Send her a letter— The sooner the better — Telling yonr grief and your pain ; She will forgive you, And glodly receive you Buck to her presence again. * * * * #
" Wherefore so merry?" said Kenneth to Colin ; " Wherefore se merry and glad ? f Songs bubble up to your lips from lues fountain ; What lias come o'er you, my lad? When we last parted You were down-hearted — Solemn and forsooth ! What have you taken ? And how have you shaken Foes that imperilled your youth ?" "T.iken?" said Colin, As roguish sniilos stole in llw eyes, " wliy you might have surmised That, melancholy because of my folly, At once took the course you advised. Love in our hearts hsw had joyful renewal, Now we sing sweetly in tune ; She is the one I love all other maids above, And I'm to many her soon !" " The sooner the better ! You're lucky to get her !" dried Kenneth, outspoken and bravo ; " And I'd rather be treading A dance at your wedding Than dropping a tear on your grave.
