AN AUSTRALIAN LOVE SONG.
BY DOUGLAS B. W. SLADEN.
I. Let us ride in the forest to-day, dear love ! In a gallop of lovers how pulses beat; The clouds have all fluttered away above, And the dew on the tea tree is cool and sweet. Tho lory and wren will flash light through the trees, The magpie will warble his matin-chime, The wattles with perfume will woo to the breeze, And the hoofs of our horses beat tuneful time. Let us ride in the forest for, como what We will live the old life, you and I, today ; Twill ba ore to-morrow our lecret or sorrow, But we'll live, were it only one hour, to-day.
IT. We were lover and lass in the wattle-glade, When the wattle-gold on your brow I, laid ; We were lover and lover.' when, wan and weak, I snatched your lifo from the flooded creek ; You were all my own, had I caught the truth , That lurked in our hearts in our laughing youth ; . You are mine, though you are not all mine, this hour, And clouds in our clime roll like dew from a flower. We will ride in the forest for, come what We will live tho old life, you and I today, Twill be ore to-morrow our secret or sorrow, But we'll live Avere it only one hour today,
