The Match with the Gentlemen of England. [Received June 4th, 7 p.m.] London, June 3.

The cricket match Australians v. Gentlemen of England, commenced at Lords to-day. The great interest being taken in the match was shown by a good attendance in spite of the weather, which was cold and incltunent. The wicknt was hca\ y, owing to the continued wet weather lately experienced. The English men went in first to the wickets. Rock and Grace commenced proceedings, but owing to the doadness of the pitch scoring was very slow, both men assuming the defensive. Eventually Grace missed one, which took his bails for 7. Rrid joined Rock. The lattor, however, only remained a short Mine, being bowled, making 9. Vernon came next, and ho and Reid made the play more lively, until the latter was bowled (13). Holler partnered Vernon, but only placed 2 to his credit before he had to retire, bowled. Lord Han is filled the vacancy, and shortly after this Vernon gave a chance to the field, which was promptly accepted, and he retned to the pavilliou after a, careful innings for 1-1. Sjott was next to come, and Lord Hairis was soon afterwaids caught for !'. Studd then joined Scott, and the two Middlesex men scored stoidily for a time, until, after making Xi, Scott skied one, which wa.s promptly held. Kemp then faced Studd, who, howo\er, at this stage was bowled for a record of 15. Chnstopherson, bowled for nought, and Walker, caught for thiee, were the two last comers, Kemp carrying out hi« bat, without however improving his average by a run. The home team were all out for 99. The bowling analysis is : Spottoith three wickets fur 30 runs ; Garrett, four for 20 runs. The fielding of the Australians was very good, and no chances were missed. S]x>fforth unfortunately sustained a serious injury while fielding, having a finger dislocated, which prevented his playing further. The Australians now faced the English bowling, Jones and Blackhatr. as usual going in first. The first named scored 8 before he was caught, and Scott joined the Melbourne wickot-keeper. This pair made a good stand, Black ham being the first to succumb, being bowled for 20. Giffen joined the Australian captain, but had only made 5 when he played one back to the bowler's hands, which was smartly taken. Bomior now joined Scott, and a splendid display of cricket ensued, both men playing with grent judgment, but never losing ,v run. There f vas esery prospect of a lengthened stand until Scott was ruled out lbw. after making 27. Jams came next, and played on the defensive, while Bonnor -cored rapidly. Jarvis, however, was bowled after making 7. Tumble succeeded him. Hio career, howovpr. was of short duration, as after a fow overs he was caught by the bnvler for a couple. Bruce was the ne\t coiner, and shared the same fate aftor placing 7to his credit. Garrett joined Bonnor, who during this timo was playing in fine form. Soon after this, however, the lastnamed lifted one out into the field, a difficult catch baing m ide, and retired after n splendid innings of 39, dining which ho never g^va :i eh mo. Palmer, the l'»st man, carried out his bat for 11, Garrett being bowled for 9. The Australians were all out for 150. Bowling analysis : Scott, 3 wickets for 50 ; Grace, 2 w ickefcs for 30.
