The Hon. D. Gillies, Premier, and Mr Wrixon, Attorney-General, have been appointed to represent this colony in the Federal Council, in place of Messrs Service and Berry, who are now in England. The Melbourne City Council has had under consideration an application for the use of the Town Hall for Nationalist meetings in support of Mr Gladstone's Irish proposals. After some discussion, the application was refused. The Government have promised to institute a searching inquiry into the loss of the Ly-ee-moon. At a public meeting held last night, a resolution was adopted approving of the tariff proposals of the Government.
