ALEXANDRA NEWS.
Thk annual election of a new school committee tonk place at the schoolhouse on the evening of the 27th inst. Mr John Aubin was called to the chair, and read the report and balance-sheet, the former showing an Average attendance of seventy scholars, sixty of whom were brought forward for examination and passed their various standards, and ten failed for want of regular attendance. The balance-sheet showed a balance to credit of £2 5s lid. The following gentlemen were duly proposed and elected for the new committee, viz. : Mes«.rs John Aubin, T. J. Meredith, A Smith, \V. Chappell, J. Miles, J. Sage and J. Hinton. Mr Aubin proposed a vote of thank 1 * to the outgoing chairman (Mr J. Sage) and committee, whioh was o irried unanimously. At a subsequent meeting Mr John Aubin wan unanimously elected chairman of the new committtee. Now thnt the Armed Constabulary have left us it will make some considerable difference in the numbers attending the school. The master Mr Collier h-is given universal satisfaction, the children having made marked progress while undor his tuition. Alexandra will be fortunate if we succeed in retaining hi« valuahl» service*. As the next Native I(ands Court will be held at O^nrohang.i, and business is not over brisk here, Mr J. D. Hill is about to erect a branch store at Otorohanga for the nccomodation of his numerous native customers. Mr OBrien, the tunnel contractor, has built another five ton punt here, io addition to his fleet which have all been dispatched up river this last week deeply loaded. Our Public Hall trustees have, notwithstanding the hard times, put a new iron i oof on that building, without, as far as I know any extraneous aid, How they have done so is a mystery to everyone. We have had no amusement of any kind here for a long time, but our local talent have been devoting their services to other townships. It is thought it is about time they had some fun at home, and ask some of their outside friends to come and assist for a local object. Mr Aubin Ahier, the contractor for the repairs to the Wai pa bridge, has been delayed this week on account of some <\f the timbers not specified for renewal being found perfectly rotten, so he is waiting until timber can be procured. Mr F. McMinn, at the Mangapiko bridge contract, has a strong staff of men at work, and is making excellent progress. — (Own Correspondent).

Messrs James Martin and Sons, tailors, fate of Hamilton, have removed from Hobson-strect to the foot of Wakeficld-street (second house from the Clarendon Hotel), Auckland. Mr T. S. Buckland will soil af Cambridge on Saturday, f ( 0 hones oi various kinds, as per list, harness, »ad.dlcry, pigs, poultry, produce, &.c. On Tuesday, the Bth inst., ho will &ell at Ohaupo, 300 head of raix-d cattle. Dairy cows and steer calves wanted for this sale. On Saturday, the 10th, he will sell the racing stock, waggons, implements, *c,, of Mr John Brown. Full particulars in future issue. Mr John Knos has received Instruction* to sell on the premises at Hamilton East, on Friday, June 4th, the whole of the well-assorted stock of saddlery, harness, Btc , the property of Mr Tames Wiseman, who is closing his Hamilton business.
