RAGLAN. Blue Ribbon Meeting.

A meeting was held on Wednesday evening Muy 19th, in the Wesleyan ohurch. Mr Pegler in the chair. A goodly number were present but the unfavourable weather prevented more assembling. After singing the hymn " Beautiful City." Prayer was offered by Mr Stephenson. The Chairman in opening the evening's entertainment, impressed upon those present the importance of the temperance movement considered from all point.*, as a means to promote the welfare of the district, and the happiness of those present. The following programme was then rendered :— Recitation, " Gambler's wife," Master F. Horsey ; duet, "'The Village Bells," Miss Savage and Mrs Stephenson ; recitation, "The Lady and her Servant," Mias Millar ; Temperance melody, " Touch not the eye" : recitation, Master Millar ; selo, '• Ninety and nine," Mr Stephenson ; recitation, •• Domestic asides," Master H. Hoigey, and reading, Master F. Bui ford ; part song, "Tell it Out," choir. Mr Stephenson made a telling speech, desiring his young friends to always stick to the truth, and to be faithful to their temperance pledge and their blua ribbon. By no doing they would be more likely to grow up useful members of society. Recitation, "Little Bow of Blue," Miss Robertson ; another song by the choir followed, then Master F. Horsey gave bis reading, " Mrs Caudle's Curtain Lecture," The writer has heard in the old land many celebrated readers, but never any who read with greater force or clearness than this boy of ten. The reading was received with applause. Hymn, "The Little Ones," by the choir. Betwoon forty and fifty have joined the movement sijioe it began here.
