Waikato Horticultural Society.
A meeting of the members of the above society was held yesterday in the Borough Council Chambers, Hamilton, to consider the Codlin Moth Act, 1884, with a view of making; representations to the Government for amending the same. There were present : His Worship the Mayor of, Hamilton (in the chair), Messrs Seddon, Dey, Sharp, Mason, Warr, Gelling, J. J. Smith, Reed, Walton, Yon Stunner, and Edgecumbe. The Chairman requested the aooretary to read the different clauses in the Act. Considerable discussion took place, and numerous suggestions to make portions of the Act apply practically were offered. Finally it was agreed, on the motion of Mr Yon Sturmor, seconded by Mr J. J. 'Smith, that a committee, consisting of Messrs Dey, Hay. O'Neill, Seddon, Sharp, Edgc'cumbe, Mason, Forrest, Reid, Wells, Walton, and the mover, with jjower to add to their number, be appointed to go through the Codlin Moth Act 1884, and draft an amendment bill to be introduced into Parliament by the member for Waikato during the present session, such an Amendment Act to apply to the colony as a whole, and to be compulsory in its operations. It was further resolved on tha motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Seddon, that a copy of the draft of the proposed amendments to the present 4icb be sent to all the kindred societies in the colony, with a request that they will consider the same and make any further suggestions, and give their active support, to the measure by urging upon their representatives in Parliament to vote for the same. No other business being brought up the secretary was repuested to call the above appointed committee together at as early a date as possible.
