London, May 24. The Australian Mutual Provident Society of Australia commence business here towards the end of July. The Grange Vineyard Company, South Australia, have sold 300 hogsheads of wine. The cricket match, Australians v. M.C.C., which was to have commenced at Lords to-day, was prevented by continuous, rain. The sculling match between Perkins and Mattcrsi m to-day resulted in a win for Perkins bv throe lengths. A PrMs Association message sayi : — In the Hcnllinjf match, Neil M.itter-'on, of Kew South Wale*, v. Pet kins, the English sculler, the former was beaten within a milo from the start, and Perkins won without an effort. A later despatch says :— ln the sculling match with Perkins, Ma.tter.son rowed very fairly. He is now anxious for a match with Godwin. May 25. Arrived: Cingalese, front Lyttelton, February U ; Alceatis, from Bluff, January 0. The commercial convention recently concluded between Spain and England contains a provision permitting the British colonies to withdraw from the convention within a year, if so desired. The Marriage with the Deceased Wife's Sister Bill came on for discussion in the House of Lords last nient, when the inea■ure was rejected by a majority of 22. The Australian mails, per Liguria, dated Melbourne, April 19, were delivered to-day via Naples.
