The Star of Mersey arrived waterloged. The crew was taken off and landed at the breakwater. Captain Christian reports that the vessel was front Kaipara to Dunedin She sprang a leak yesterday afternoon in the bow, and being unable to keep the water down with the pumps, he decided to run for New Plymouth harbour for shelter. The captain and men were thoroughly exhausted, and say that but for New Plymouth harbour they would have been lost. After abandonment, the vessel went ashore and became a total wreck.
