RAGLAN.

The annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Town of Raglan Highway District was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday, May 4th. Mr A. Gilmour in the chair. The Clerk read the report, statement of expenditure and liabilities, etc., which showed : receipts, £56 14s 2¾d, and expenditure, £50 12s 8d. The report was adopted. Mr J. N. Pegler proposed and Mr Wylie seconded and it was carried, "That this meeting considers that any longer delay in bringing into operation the Counties Act in the Raglan County will be fatal to the best interests of the district, and that the chairman of the board interview our member, Mr Lake, re the best means to be adopted for so desirable an end. It was resolved " That it is the duty of the Raglan Highway District to co-operate as much as possible with the Waikato districts in their endeavour to get the amounts with which we are debited under the Hospital and Charitable Aid Act more equally adjusted. It was proposed by Mr Mita Karaka, seconded by Mr Wylie, "That the best thanks of this meeting are due to Mr Knox, of Hamilton, for requesting Mr Ballance to induce the Government to put into order the Hamilton and Raglan road." Various matters of interest to the district were considered, viz., the erection of a derrick on the wharf ; the working of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Act; the Counties Act and its adoption. At the first meeting of the new board, consisting of Messrs Gilmour, Wylie, Philip, Meta Karaka and Pegler the last named gentleman was elected chairman. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr A. Gilmour for his services during the past year. Mr Savage was re-appointed clerk and collector. Various matters were then considered as to the repair of roads, etc. — (Own Correspondent.)

The sheriff of Auckland notifies in another column that unless claims are satisfied be will cause ta be sold at Messrs £. and A. Isaac's talc room, Auckland, on the 11th day of June allotment No. 334, Hamilton West. It is the intCßtion of the members of the Newcastle Road Board at a mectinft to be held on the 12th day of June next, to make a rate of cme halfpenny in the £ on all rateable property in the Newcastle Road District. Mr Chas. Sodergreen of the Commercial Hotel stables, notifies in our advertising columns that he is about leaving the district, and requests that all accounts outstanding be paid to Mr O'Nei'r solicitor, before the endof the present month., Meson Jaggs and Moore, tailors, notifies in our advertising columns that they have commenced buswaa at tailors and habit makers in Vtctona-street Auckland.
