MR VAILE'S LECTURE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir.,— Telegrams from Hamilton published in this day's Auckland papers stated, that if I had sent a notice to tho Herald and Star of this city, saying that I was unable to give the promised lecture, it would hiv\e s>aved much inconvenience to many people in your district. I very much i egret that it never occurred to me to make lisa of tho Auckland papers. Fortunately I have very little personal experiencn of illness of any kind and had no idea the attack I was suffering from Would last so long, and up to 3.30. p.m. on Thursday it was my intention to keep my engagement. However, I was summoned as a special juror for that day, and being unable to attend had to send for % medical man for a certificate. As soon an he saw me he prohibited me from attempting to give a lecture, saying I should break down within half-an-hour, and that serious illness might result. I was there* fore reluctantly compelled to remain at home. If the gentlemen who did me the honour to come from Alexandra and Kihikiln will communicate with me, I will endeavour to Arrange to give lectures in their towns if they so wish it. I expect to be in business again on Monday, and shall be happy to give the promised lecture on any evening after Thursday next. Again expressing my regret at having caused inconvenience,—l am, faithfully yours, Samuel Vaile. The Avenue, Auckland, 15th May, 1880
