THE ANNUAL SOCIAL GATHERING OF S. ANDREW'S, CAMBRIDGE
This event on Wednesday evening wns an unqualified success. The number of persons who partook of the feast i* estimated at fully 150. It was eight o'clock before the tables could be cleared away, and the hull re-arr.«nged for the concert that followed. Eleven table*, loaded with tempting edibles, and drlicacie* such as cold fowl, sandwiches, custards, jellies, trifles, &c, &c, tastefully arranged, and decorated, were presided over by Mrs. Chambers, Mrs Willis (assisted by Miss Dudley, from Auckland). Mrs Young, Mr* and the Misses Hill. Mrs Wilson, Mm Boyce, Miss Reynolds, Miss Moon, and MrsG. W. Stewart, all of whom laboured assiduously over their respective charges. After tea was over, the hall was packed almost to suffocation by an appreciative audience for the conceit, presided over by Rbv. Mr Wilson, in the absence of Archdeacon •Willis.. Miss Mogienie, of Auckland, was the star of the evening ; her beautiful songs were exquisite, and so delighted the house that she received a perfect ovation at each apjwarance and had to respond to encores, of which no denial would be taken. The programme was a lengthy one, and we regret we are unable to give mine than a summary of it. "En Route." piano solo, by Mr Selby, Jun. ; " We'd Better Bide a Wee," song, by Mrs Murray, of Waitoa ; " True till Death," song, by Mr Marshall, of Tamahere: "Dream Faces," song, by Mr« L. B. Ewen; "White Wings, "song, by Miss Mogienie, vehemently encored; "How I Learned the French Horn," recitation, by Mr Ridgley; "Portugese Hymn with variations," pianoforte solo, by Mis* Frazer; Quartette, ""Roßomaiden," by Mm Dickinson, Mrs Chamber?, Mrs dhitty. and Mis* Sonter; "The Whfcthing Thief." song, by Mr F. Hartley ; " Coming Thro' the Rye," song, by Mrs Murray ; "Heartsland Homes," duet, by Mrs Lwen and Mr Marshall; "Punchinello/V'song, by Mrs Chambers; "Pierrot," song, by Miss Mogiene, loudly encorded and responded to by "Robin's Return"; " The Roman Girl," song, by Mr Marshall ; " When tho Swallows Homeward Fly." with variations, pianoforte solo, by Miss Frazer ; "A Free Lance am I," song, by Mr (». W. Russell, encored ; " Sing Me an English Song," by Mrs Ewen j " Very Suspicion*," duet, by Miss Mogienie and Mr Hartley, encored; "Glorious Apollo," glee, by Messrs Chambers, Hartley, Paltridge, A. Chamber* and N. Hunt. Mr Wells, on behalf of the vestry, thanked tho ladies nnd other friends for their great assistance at the tea and concert. The evening closed with the National Anthem. It is expected that the sum of £70 nett will be realised.
